


The Colonial Zone, this is the name in which the most antique part of the city of Santo Domingo is called, capital of the Dominican Republic and it was the first city founded by europeans in America. The name is due to this part of the city was founded by Spanish colonists.
This area of Santo Domingo counts with colonial buildings and antiques streets that are a great touristic attraction, such as, Alcazar de Colon( who belonged to Diego Colon, son of Cristobal Colon), El Museo de las Casas Reales o la cathedral primada de America. In this area you will fin many national and international brands of hotels and restaurants.
December 8, 1990 this zone was declared by the UNESCO, patrimony of humanity, under the name of Colonial City of Santo Domingo, with an area of 93 acres. Now days is one of the most important and visited touristic places by tourists, in Dominican Republic.
